We talk quite a bit about uniform as in what we may wear when recreating 'school' or about more casual or 'play' wear that taps into our sense of being forever a boy but there's a place seven days a week, three-hundred and sixty-five days each year that's also in our life.
For some of us even it was a part of our schooling too.
Yip bedtime with it's rituals of taking off and folding our clothes neatly, with stuff for the was to one side, standing as I did in line to brush your teeth at the sink after going the toilet and putting on your pajamas.
To me a part of my ASB life revolves as much about that although I've yet to attend a ASB boarding school and part of involves wearing the same sort of pajamas I wore then as today what a number of boys wear to bed is different being more lounge wear based on a t shirt and shorts but usually a jersey knit.
Back in the day it was different. You had polyester mixes or cotton which may of had either a plaid, striped or plain colour with contrasting trim print cut to make a full length shirt styled top with buttons and long trousers with a button fly.
As mine needed replacing I picked up a pair by Myers in light blue with a pocket which is handy for tissues as well as that button fly that saves time going to the toilet at night trying take your Pj bottoms down.
Back then during winter I did wear a white vest underneath the top for extra warm in an era before we had central heating or less than reliable oil based radiators that didn't quite warm the whole dorm.
I may well do the same this winter.
Back then it was all blankets that you had to fold and tuck in neatly at the corners too rather than fitted sheets and duvets covers which once you have got the knack of getting the duvet in is easier.
