Winter pretty much arrived on Tuesday so I went out Wednesday trudging on foot to observe and experience it as that cub scout in spirit.
It was a little thick in places even though we are quite a bit below the highest points just a few miles above us so I had to walk carefully avoiding dragging my feet and back in to the wood we visited before, it was little different.
You can get a sense of how the snow fell by looking at how it took to the tree getting the one in the foreground.
This interestingly shaped twig takes on a fresh look in the snow reminding one of wriggling worms
The scene is set out with the dead branch looking like a slain animal on a bed of snow in the silent winter.
I spent time making and throwing snowballs in the wood enjoying the winter as the inner child in me needed and indeed wanted, to playing as indeed I had seen bio-kids doing only a half hour before on their way to school and play group.

A wolf cub week
After that talk about lego back to other aspects of my evolving life with a connection starting with the further distancing from anything feminine I ditched a cute pencil case for this.
This is really more suited for a boy and what is more featuring a wolf links directly to Wolf Cubs or in post 1967 British scouting association terms, Cub Scouts being in that pack learning and having fun as a boy.
That leads on to cub scout in spirit activities such as going down to nearby woods observing nature, identifying species and noting changes.
It also includes exploring such as the local waterways , challenging myself to overcome fears and difficulties, reaching beyond ordinary limits like walking in muddy conditions which I did mid week.
This was a picture I took yesterday where I thought the winter sun lighting was good.
I have the strength to stand alone being my own boy in the pack standing up for his innate masculine self.

A standard for This Boy and a shock
Looking around at the movement with my life presently I think it would a sensible idea to examine the kind of ethics going forward I should adopt to take with me on this journey.
To me the most appropriate kind of ethics for me to commit to are essentially the same as those to be within scouting and so I've adopted them
A Boys Code
A Boy is:
Trustworthy,
Loyal,
Helpful,
Friendly,
Courteous,
Kind,
Obedient,
Cheerful,
Thrifty,
Brave,
Clean,
and Reverent
A Boys Law
I will do my best to be
Honest and fair,
Friendly and helpful,
Considerate and caring,
Courageous and strong,
Mentally alert,
and take responsibility for what I say and do
And to
Help people at all times,
Keep myself physically strong,
Respect myself and others,
Respect authority,
Respect my Flag and Country
and Be a brother to all other boys.
I, Christopher, hereby commit myself to upholding the Boys Code and Law this day September 28 2018 from hereon in.
Visiting ones paternal home looking in the bookcase where there are a good many books that haven't moved in at least thirty odd years I spotted a few Ladybird books and inserted opening side out obscuring the spine was this!!!
It is the 1973 edition written by David Harwood and illustrated in the then contemporary uniforms by the late John Berry.
As you have read this blog before, you will know I spoke about how it was my siblings were cub scouts and one was a Scout but strangely enough no one like my parents ever considered asking if I was interested so scouting was something I never got to experience probably because of my disabilities.
Interesting after mentioning on page four it doesn't matter if a boy is handicapped* or not,cub scouting is for every boy who makes the Cub Scout Promise and understands Cub Scout Law, it has a section on page eighteen called Extension Activities.
It is a whole page devoted to disabled boys and how you can be a cub scout indicating that not being able to play every game or undertake every pack activity doesn't stop you because instead you would be expect to help the leaders run them.
Moreover they would give you special activities comparable to that what regular boys might when it comes to what you need to put into them to develop your skills and interests by your cub scout leaders.
It even shows a physically disabled cub scout firing a arrow using a provided aid so he could do archery! This is in 1973 where you did face more restrictions but Scouting was ahead of that curve when it came to being inclusive.
It seems somewhere down the line, nobody actually read this because on the face of it it's saying clearly I would of been accepted and any necessary adjustments made!
All I can say is I read it and just felt like crying.
* Regarded by activists as unacceptable term today, I judge people more by their intent and actions than *Politically Correct* terms or sharing sense of victimhood.

Cub scouts
Cub Scouts and Scouting in general wasn't something I got into or to be more accurate was encouraged into although my older brother did remain it up to his mid teens and my younger brother was a Cub.
It wasn't that it didn't appeal but it wasn't talked about in front of me by either of them so I'd only discover randomly it was 'Bob a Job" week and the like when they'd go out and bring home the completed forms to show what they did to take to Cubs or Scouts the next meeting.
Nor did my parents ever talk with me about joining, perhaps even inviting the cub or scouts leader to talk with me perhaps thinking disabled boys like me didn't have a place in Scouting although in later years I learned that during that era local packs did do this.
To me it was an essential part of being a boy, learning useful skills and values to help me make the most of it and a potential help in learning to integrate that I missed out on to the point when I started age regressing in my mid teens wearing the odd thing such as the green sock garters with their sashes and shorts was one my first steps back in time.
